From the desk of the Prez

Hi Everyone,

It was a great weekend at the Temecula Valley Agility Club’s May CPE trial. We had great food, great weather, and lots of Qs. It was exciting to see Casey and Rio, Beverly and Susie, and Linda and Casey earn their C-ATCH’s. I would like to send out a huge thank-you to Beverly Buckley, the trial chair and Karen Biggs, the trial secretary for their hard work; it really showed. Maren and Jean – they could not have done it without your help.

The Ring Stewards did a wonderful job organizing and recruiting volunteers and helping the trial to stay on track. Everyone had a great time and the trial ran very smoothly. Thanks to Diane we had two
days of great food and amazing desserts. Congratulations to everyone who Q’d – We hope you had a good time and will come back to run with us in the fall.

Thursday, May 31, 2012 we will have a general membership meeting at Ultimate Sports Pizza, 23905 Clinton Keith Rd, Wildomar, CA at 7:00 p.m. You can grab dinner and give us your thoughts on ways we can bring in new members and what we could do for our current members to improve the club. I look forward to seeing you all then and hope you had a great time at the trial.

Sincerely,

Melody Graveen

President, Temecula Valley Agility Club

Dog Agility for Dummies

Author – John Kinney

Welcome to the sport of dog agility.  Many of you were probably introduced to the sport through your local Parks and Recreation Department, watching an event on television or hearing a fellow dog owner talking about it.  It is a fast-paced fun sport for dogs and their owners looking for challenges beyond sit, stay and rollover (and those aren’t even the dog’s tricks).  This article is strictly limited to the agility sport, where obstacles are placed in an open area and the handlers direct their dogs through the course via verbal and physical commands.  There are many other new K-9 sports like Flyball, Lure coursing, and Herding and you will need to go elsewhere for that information.
